5 Steps to Attaining Your Greatest Desire

Some people like to use “vision boards” to help them attain what they want.

They’ll find pictures of the things they want, assemble them onto a board, and stare at them every day. They might have pictures of cars, mansions, holidays, expensive clothes, fine dining and anything else they want to have.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting something you don’t have, but staring at a picture won’t cause it to magically manifest itself.

Step 1 is to know what you desire. It could be a material possession, a company vision or a lifestyle you desire for yourself and your family.

Then, find a visual or an auditory representation of that thing. This is exactly like a “vision board,” except it’s just the first step of the 5 step process.

If you’ve already got a “vision board,” then you’ve already completed this step and you can move on to step 2.

Here’s where the process picks up on the deficiencies of the “vision board.”

Set a definitive date for which you expect to have what it is you want. It might be one year from today, 20 years from today or whatever date is realistic.

The important thing is that it’s a concrete deadline. The 1st of January, 2028 is an example of a concrete deadline. “One day” or “as soon as possible” is not a concrete deadline.

Thirdly, decide which strategy you will incorporate to attain your desire. This must be more than staring at a picture.

What is your concrete plan for attaining this material possession, realizing your company vision or achieving your desired lifestyle? What action are you going to take that will get you there?

Make sure the strategy will get you to where you want to go by your assigned deadline. You don’t want to reach that deadline and realize that your action took you in the wrong direction.

Having a plan and a strategy doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to carry it out. This is why you need to emotionalize the experience.

If you dream about having a Ferrari or a Bugatti Veyron, don’t just find a picture. Go to the dealership and test it out. Emotionalize the experience and incorporate all of your senses.

This will greatly increase your motivation to carry out your plan, even on those days when you don’t feel like it.

Finally, socialize it. Let the rest of the world know what you’re after.

Then, they will hold you accountable to your goal and your deadline. They’ll check on you along the way and ask you about your progress.

Follow this 5 step process and your “vision board” will become your “action board.”
